Euclid Takes Major Step Forward in Recreation and Wellness Center

July 16, 2024

The project, which has been in the planning stages for several years, reached a significant milestone on July 15th when the city officially opened bids from potential contractors.

The City of Euclid is abuzz with excitement as it moves forward with plans to build their new Recreation and Wellness Center. The project, which has been in the planning stages for several years, reached a significant milestone on July 15th when the city officially opened bids from potential contractors. This step marks the beginning of the final phase of preparations before ground can be broken on the new facility.

The center will play a crucial role in increasing public safety by offering structured activities for Euclid’s youth with aim of engaging our young people in positive ways, reducing the likelihood of them getting involved in unsafe or unproductive activities. Programs like the ones planned for our Rec & Wellness Center foster discipline, self-esteem, and leadership. Participation in structured activities at any age increases community cohesion which leads to lower instances of crime. Classes such as CPR, First Aid, and Heimlich training will be offered and our center will provide meeting space for community block watch, crime prevention and disaster preparation meetings - all of which directly enhance public safety.

City officials, residents, and local stakeholders gathered at Euclid City Hall to witness the opening of the sealed bids for the new facility, a process that promises transparency and fairness in selecting the best contractor for the job. "This is a pivotal moment for our community," said Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail. "The Recreation and Wellness Center will be a hub for health, fitness, and social activities, providing benefits that will be felt for generations to come."

The next step in the process involves a detailed review of the bids submitted by the contractors so the city can choose the lowest and best bid. Our goal is to ensure that this project is delivered within budget, without compromising on quality.

Breaking ground on the project could occur as early as next month. If all goes according to plan, the selected contractor will begin the initial phases of construction, transforming the designated plot of land off Milton Ave (across from the C. E Orr Ice Arena) into a bustling center of activity. Beyond the athletic courts, fitness center, and walking track, the facility will also include multi-purpose rooms that can be used for neighborhood meetings, fostering community engagement and collaboration.

The Recreation and Wellness Center is more than just a building; it represents Euclid's commitment to promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for its residents. As the city moves forward with the selection process, anticipation continues to build. The community looks forward to the groundbreaking ceremony, which will signify the start of a new chapter in Euclid's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for all its citizens.
