Welcome Ward 5 Councilperson Tara Hannum

December 28, 2022

Tara will serve Ward 5 for the remainder of the term vacated by Councilperson Christine McIntosh.

Euclid resident Tara Hannum was recently appointed as Councilperson for Ward 5 taking over the position of Christine McIntosh who has accepted a full-time position in the City of Euclid Planning and Development Department. Hannum, a current employee of Case Western Reserve University where she works with graduate school students, enjoys her role in education and considers herself a lifetime learner. “It’s always been a passion of mine to explore things,” she explained.

Hannum holds two masters’ degrees from Ohio University, one being in political science based on a deeply rooted interest in government passed down by her father and her grandfather who served on City Council while living in Belle Valley, Ohio. “My family always talked about politics,” said Hannum. “They talked about change- what they could change, and what they would do if they had a say.” Hannum believes in public service and is proud to take an active role, sharing “I always thought of government as being a good thing. We created it as a society and it’s the vehicle that gets us where we want to go.”

Hannum fell in love in Euclid while shopping for the home she currently resides in on East 211th Street. “Euclid is a beautiful city,” said the new councilperson. “I wanted to live by the lake and Euclid is situated perfectly for that. The downtown area has a small-town feel, the people are nice- it’s a place where it’s easy to feel at ease.” Homeownership is something the councilperson would like to see more of in the City, bringing a sense of community along with it.

When asked about some of the challenges currently facing our city the councilperson responded “ I see a lot of positive things happening in Euclid. There are some challenges here just like everywhere else, but I think we’re getting better about talking about these things.” Hannum praises work she sees being done by Euclid City Council and Euclid Police to combat gun violence and increase mental health support for residents, and is looking forward to being a part of more of those conversations. “I have a strong sense of duty,” the councilperson says.

"Ms. Hannum brings a strong educational background, a great deal of administrative experience, and a commitment to public service," said Euclid Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail.  "I look forward to working with her on our shared vision for a stronger Euclid!"

Tara Hannum will be sworn in to City Council and attend her first meeting as ward 5 councilperson on January 3rd, 2023. Her contact information will be available on the City Council page at www.cityofeuclid.com after the start of her term.
