Job Title: Superintendent – Public Works

Department: Public Service

Status: A. Unclassified B. Exempt  


Job Summary: The Superintendent coordinates with the Streets, Sewers and Water Reclamation departments for work to be completed within the city. Under the immediate Supervision of the Director of Public Service, the Superintendent will work as a part of a management team. Planning, managing and oversight of municipal infrastructure projects. Projects may include coordination with County, State, Federal agencies and local utilities.


Job Duties:


  • Oversight of multiple departments coordinating with department managers
  • Coordination with City Engineer, Consultants and Contractors on current and future capital improvement projects
  • Oversee construction, maintenance and repair of city infrastructure, including roads, bridges and utilities
  • Works with the Superintendent of Water Reclamation to assure project construction does not adversely affect the operation or permit limits of the treatment plant.
  • Works with the Research and Compliance manager to coordinate staff and equipment needed to assure compliance of all State and Federal requirements for stormwater and the collection system.
  • Updating yearly condition reports on city assets
  • Work with the Director to develop the annual operating budget, allocating resources and monitoring expenditures.
  • Research and evaluate the best sources for supplies needed within Public Works
  • Coordinate employee training and safety classes.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Provide construction project updates to be posted to the city website
  • Hold and/or attend public and construction contractor update meetings as needed
  • Maintain, compile and submit data for projects to outside entities as needed
  • Addressing emergency situations and coordinating with emergency services, and implementing solutions for public safety issues.
  • Position does require availability after hours, weekends and holidays in emergency and weather-related situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment: Light work (exerting up to 30 lbs. of force occasionally). Indoor/outdoor. Subject to hazards: moving mechanical parts, electric current, water, chemicals; Atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, gases. Physical activity: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, and walking. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Requirements:

  • Demonstrated project management ability, including budgeting, coordination, managing compliance, and problem resolution.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong customer service approach;
  • Proven, management-level leadership experience in a public agency or function;
  • Bachelor's degree in a field of science, engineering, planning, or a related field, or equivalent experience in a related field preferred.
  • Ohio EPA Waste Water Operators or Collection System License preferred.


Grade 3, Pay Rate: $80,912.00, Monday-Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm,
