Job Title:        Operator - Waste Water Treatment


Department:   Public Service


Status:             A. Classified  B. Nonexempt - FLSA.

           

Job Summary:    Assist the Shift Operator in monitoring and controlling the flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent at the Waste Water Treatment facilities. Works under the immediate direction of the Superintendent of Waste Water Treatment.

 

Job Duties:

 

    -      Monitor gages, meters and control panels.

    -      Operate valves and gates both manually or by remote control.

    -      Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes.

    -      Extract samples and perform routine maintenance functions and custodial duties.

    -      Operate and maintain power generating equipment and incinerators.

    -      Observe variations in operating conditions, and interpret meter and gage readings, and test results to determine processing requirements.

    -      Perform other related miscellaneous duties.

Work Environment:   Waste Water Treatment facilities. Heavy work: exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally.  Indoor/outdoor, subject to hazards: moving mechanical parts, electric current; atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, gases; occasional exposure to below 32 degree F temperatures; oils, noise and vibration. Physical activity: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering and grasping.

 

Requirements:  High school graduate. Experience in Waste Water Treatment operation. Ohio EPA Waste Water certification (Class I, II, or III) preferred. Ability to express and exchange ideas and instructions accurately and clearly.
