City Announces New Grant Program for Housing Rehabilitation for Income-Qualifying Homeowners
Eligible Euclid homeowners can be assisted with up to $7,500.00 for home improvement projects.
The City of Euclid’s Division of Community Development is announcing the first round of home improvement and rehabilitation grants. These are under the newly created Housing Accessibility and Rehabilitation Grant program. These grants are made possible from the annual allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Since January 2024, the City of Euclid has invested a total of $253,000.00 in Health, Safety, and Well-Being home improvements with CDBG funds. These improvements include furnace replacements, vinyl siding of wood-sided homes, exterior paint, and roofs.
The City has more than 14,500 single-family houses with more than half of them built before 1950. The City continues to reaffirm its commitment to driving investment in its housing stock and ensure housing remains affordable and safe for all. The program is designed to assist income-qualifying homeowners with interior and exterior home rehabilitation projects.
Homeowners who meet HUD income and homeownership guidelines are eligible to be assisted with funding with a maximum of $7,500.00 for an eligible project, with a 25% match required from the homeowner by way of a loan or out-of-pocket monies. For example, a qualifying homeowner wants to make plumbing and electrical improvements to the interior of their home. The total project cost is $10,700. The City would contribute $7,500 toward the project and the homeowner would be responsible for $3,200.
As the current level of funding is limited, this first round of grants will be concentrated on projects to address critical health, safety and welfare of the homeowner. Eligible projects for this round include but are not limited to wheelchair ramps, interior safety grab-bars and handrails, furnace replacement, plumbing and electrical improvements, and roofing.
This is a first-come, first-serve grant program. Once all funds are allocated and committed, the program will end.
