Euclid adds seven new “Hometown Heroes”

June 7, 2022

Hometown Heroes Banners are hung down East 222nd now through November 11th.

Keep Euclid Beautiful, in a partnership with the Euclid Joint Veterans Council, added seven new “Hometown Heroes” banners to their collection this year recognizing and honoring seven more of our city’s service members.

The Euclid Hometown Heroes Banner Program is a tribute to Euclid residents and their immediate family members who are currently serving or who have served our country in the armed forces: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines (WWII) and National Guard. Banners can be sponsored by friends and family of our service members, and hang along East 222nd Street from Memorial Day through Veterans Day in honor of our Euclid veterans.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to have served my country. While most of us didn’t do it for the recognition, it is definitely a wonderful feeling to be recognized by your friends and loved ones for that service,” said honoree Rick Roberts.

With the addition of this year’s seven, there are now 103 “Hometown Heroes” banners in the yearly display. Added this year were veterans from a variety of service branches and conflicts, including U.S Air Force Desert Storm veteran Rick Roberts and U.S. Marine Corps Vietnam veteran William Booker Lowe.

“I’m proud and humbled to have my banner displayed along with so many of my veteran brothers and sisters from my hometown,” Roberts said. “It meant the world to me to have my family join me for that special and very touching moment. I know my late father was there in spirit as well. My amazing girlfriend Renee managed to pull off quite the surprise that day! It’s something I will never forget.”

Banners will be available for viewing down East 222nd Street through November 11th. Interested in sponsoring a banner for a Euclid veteran? Contact Keep Euclid Beautiful at 216-289-2786 or keepeuclidbeautiful@cityofeuclid.com
