Thursday, November 11^th Euclid City Hall provided the venue for a Veterans Day Ceremony, hosted by the Euclid Joint Veterans Council. Several dozen armed service veterans were in attendance, representing all members of the Euclid Joint Veteran Council: The American Legion, Euclid Veterans Club, Jewish War Veterans, Polish Legion American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Korean War Veterans Association.

  Euclid High School NJROTC was also represented to “Post of the Colors,” and Euclid High School Varsity Chorale- under the direction of Sierra Pabon, sang Amazing Grace and a soloist Zayda Stormer performed our National Anthem.

The somber, yet uplifting program featured a medley of service songs highlighting each branch of our armed services, and personal readings from veterans Chris Murphy, Tony Capuozzo, John Prizzi, Virginia Clark, Laura Gorshe, Ray Maderka and Paul Vdakakas.

  Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail also addressed the audience, attributing much of the success of our city as a whole to the contribution of veterans. “Our community owes so much to our veterans and their families,” said Holzheimer Gail. “They came back after serving and they helped build Euclid. They raised their families here, built our community, ran businesses, volunteered, served in public office, and contributed in so many ways to building Euclid as a community.”

  Opening and closing heartfelt prayers were led by Euclid American Legion Chaplain Paul Vdakakes, and fallen comrades were honored with a firing squad salute performed by firing squad members Jeff Laird, Duane D'Amico, Ray Maderka and Todd Capuozzo. Taps was performed on bugle by bugler Pat Ludwa.

  Euclid is thankful for, and humbled by the many sacrifices of our veterans and their families. We thank all of you for your service and your sacrifice for our many freedoms.
