City of Euclid Receives $50,000 Grant for Urban Tree Canopy Maintenance
Approximately 300 trees measuring 24 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) and greater will be pruned using this grant award.
Euclid, Ohio — The City of Euclid is excited to announce that we have been awarded a $50,000 grant through the Cuyahoga County Healthy Urban Tree Canopy Program (HUTC). This funding will play a pivotal role in supporting Euclid’s tree canopy goals of preserving its urban forest, recognized to be critical infrastructure. The City strives to gain optimum health, environmental, and beautification benefits of a well-maintained tree population while achieving maximum public safety.
The City's commitment to its urban tree canopy is further strengthened by this $50,000 grant, building on an existing investment of over $200,000 in 2025. This substantial financial commitment highlights Euclid's dedication to nurturing a sustainable urban environment, securing lasting benefits for the community.
Approximately 300 trees measuring 24 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH) and greater will be pruned using this grant award. These larger trees are just a small portion of the approximately 8,000 trees currently in need of either pruning or removal throughout the City of Euclid.
The grant is part of HUTC's 2025 initiative to maintain healthy urban tree canopies that contribute to improved air quality, reduced urban heat, and enhanced aesthetic appeal. With this funding, the City of Euclid will be able to undertake significant tree maintenance, ensuring that our urban forest remains vibrant and resilient.
Administered by the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD), the HUTC program operates on a contracted services model. This approach enables efficient management and execution of urban tree projects across Cuyahoga County. In the coming weeks, SWCD will issue Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to qualified vendors to carry out the necessary tree pruning, planning, and maintenance activities.
"The City of Euclid is deeply honored to receive this generous grant from the Healthy Urban Tree Canopy Program," said Euclid Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail. "Our city's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship is strengthened by this funding, which will allow us to maintain and enhance our urban tree canopy for the benefit of all residents."
The final scope of work for the project will be determined through a competitive bidding process managed by Cuyahoga SWCD. The collaboration between the City of Euclid, Cuyahoga SWCD, and selected vendors will ensure that the project is completed efficiently and within the allocated budget.
This grant represents a significant investment in the City of Euclid's environmental future, reinforcing its dedication to creating a healthier and more sustainable urban environment. The pruning of the city's larger tree lawn trees will not only improve their health and longevity but will also contribute to the overall beauty and livability of the community.
