Sensible Salting Plan - Road Salt Conservation
Due to a region-wide shortage of road salt, side streets will not be salted at this time.

Euclid Residents: The City of Euclid is currently navigating a regional supply chain shortage of road salt affecting municipalities across Northeast Ohio. To ensure the safety of our community, we are strictly adhering to our winter weather priority plan.
Our Salting Priorities:
Our primary goal is to keep major transit corridors and geographic hazards—such as hills and curves—clear for emergency vehicles and heavy traffic.
To conserve our remaining inventory for these high-risk areas:
• Main Roads & Hills: Will continue to receive priority salting.
• Secondary/Side Streets: In alignment with Euclid’s standard winter policy and current conservation efforts, side streets will not be salted.
While we typically reserve salting for main arterial roads, we recognize the current icing concerns on side streets. However, due to the extreme low temperatures, standard salt applications are significantly less effective. ( Standard rock salt loses most of its melting power once temperatures drop below 15°F to 20°!)
To achieve results in these conditions, we would need to increase our salt usage by roughly 75%. Given that more snow is in the forecast, we must conserve our resources to ensure we can manage the incoming accumulation effectively.
We advise residents to allow extra travel time and exercise extreme caution while driving. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate this supply chain issue!
